Celebrating forty years

Our Orchestra is 40 years old this year and we are celebrating!

LoCCO started as Helensburgh's 'Saturday Orchestra' in 1977 and then, as now, welcomes those who would like the chance to play in an orchestra - young or old, new players or experienced.

At the first official practice session in East Clyde Street school hall on 7th October, 1977, 70 players turned up - many of them children, and over the years hundreds have enjoyed the open and encouraging musical environment the Orchestra offers.

The reserve conductor, David Bruce, took the baton at that first session, and as part of our celebration this year, at our winter concert on 25th November (11am Victoria Halls), David Bruce will conduct us in a piece that was played during the Orchestra's very first term.

See further information about the history of the Orchestra on the About page.

We run an active program of encouraging and helping players. As well as our conductor - Leon Reimer, the Orchestra employs a number of specialist tutors part-time to take the various sections of the Orchestra during Saturday morning sessions. We would like to maintain this program as far as possible, and seek sponsors to help us achieve this. If you would like to help please contact our Chairman John Gourlay or Secretary Anne Evans.
